Peyton Kennedy portrays Kate Messner, a talented and introspective sophomore in high school. Kate is the daughter of the school principal and is known for her love of photography and her involvement in the AV club. Throughout the series, Kate navigates her feelings of attraction towards other girls while dealing with the struggles of teenage life.

Jahi Di'Allo Winston plays Luke O'Neil, a freshman in high school who is passionate about filmmaking. Luke is a member of the AV club and becomes infatuated with Kate, leading to a complicated relationship between them. He is also dealing with the absence of his father and strives to find his place in the world.
