William Louis Petersen is an American actor best known for his role as Gil Grissom in the CBS drama series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Born on February 21, 1953, in Evanston, Illinois, Petersen began his acting career in the 1980s and gained recognition for his roles in films such as 'To Live and Die in L.A.' (1985) and 'Manhunter' (1986). He won a Screen Actors Guild Award for his performance in CSI and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award. Petersen has also appeared in movies like 'Young Guns II' (1990), 'Fear' (1996), 'The Contender' (2000), 'Detachment' (2011), and 'Seeking a Friend for the End of the World' (2012). He recently reprised his role as Gil Grissom in the sequel series 'CSI: Vegas' (2021).
